We install, activate and hand it over working, checking signal quality across your channels rather than on the first one that comes up. Heat deserves a thought as well. A decoder shut inside a closed cabinet through a Rustenburg summer runs hot, and heat shortens its life, so we will suggest somewhere better if the spot you have picked is going to cause grief.
DStv Extra View links a second decoder to your subscription so that two TVs can sit on different channels.
Out on a plot those two rooms can be a fair distance apart, and the heartbeat cable joining the decoders has to cover the gap without picking up interference along the way. We use decent cable, keep the run clear of mains wiring where we can, then pair and activate the units once they are connected.
Dust and heat are hard on the outdoor end of a DStv installation. Fine dust works into any connector that is not sealed, and the LNB bakes in the sun year after year until its performance tails off.
We mount dishes on a bracket or a pole rated for the position, align on a meter, and seal the LNB and connectors so that dust and rain stay outside. Where the Magaliesberg or a line of trees is in the way, we find a position that clears it instead of mounting wherever is convenient. Realignment from R450, replacement from R800.
Here is where plots part company with town. A few metres inside a house is simple; a run from the main house out to a cottage, a flatlet or a workshop is not, and it is where most self-installed setups come apart.
Signal weakens over distance, and every splitter weakens it again, so a long run needs the right cable, connectors made off correctly, and an amplifier only where one is genuinely called for. We measure at the far end when we finish, not back at the dish, because that is the reading which decides whether the TV works.
We install soundbars and full surround systems, placing the speakers to suit the space, running the wiring where it cannot be seen, and setting the levels once it is all in.
Open-plan lounges and patio areas are common in this town and they are harder to get right than a closed room, because the sound escapes instead of reflecting. It is worth telling us how the room actually gets used before we quote.

Heat and dust account for a fair share of the decoder failures we see out this way. Dust builds up inside the vents, the box runs hotter than it ought to, and the power supply or the hard drive gives up early.
We repair and replace Explora and HD decoders, working out the fault before quoting, because a no-signal complaint is more often the dish or a connector than the decoder. Repair work is covered for six months afterwards, and the R550 call-out includes the drive out and the fault-finding.
