A 4K feed is less forgiving of a weak signal than standard HD is, so it pays to have the dish and connectors looked at before the decoder goes in. In this climate the connectors are usually the ones at fault rather than the dish.

We install it, finish the activation and check signal quality across your channels. If the reading is soft we look at the outdoor end of the system first, because in the Midlands a marginal signal is nearly always a damp connector or a tired LNB rather than anything inside the house.
DStv Extra View runs a second decoder off your existing subscription, so another TV can sit on a different channel.
The two units are joined by a heartbeat cable. Where that cable has to pass outdoors, which it frequently does between a main house and a flatlet, we use outdoor-rated cable and seal the entry, because an exposed run in this climate will give trouble inside a season.
Nearly every no-signal call we take here traces back to water. Mist and heavy summer rain find their way into an F-connector that was not sealed, the braid corrodes green, and the signal degrades slowly enough that people blame the decoder.
On an installation, connectors are weatherproofed and the cable is dressed so water drips away from the joint rather than into it. On a repair, we change the corroded connectors and the LNB if it has gone, instead of simply tightening things up and leaving. Realigning a dish starts at R450; replacing one starts at R800.
An extra point is a dedicated coaxial run to the room you want it in, ending at a wall plate instead of a cable stretched across the floor.
We route it through the roof space and inside the wall wherever the construction allows. Any stretch that runs outdoors gets UV-stable, outdoor-rated cable and a sealed entry point, which counts for a great deal more here than it would in a dry climate.
We fit soundbars as well as full surround systems: working out where each speaker should sit, keeping the wiring out of sight, and balancing the system at the end.
If any of it is going onto a patio or a covered braai area, mention that at the quoting stage. Indoor speakers do not last in this humidity, and the wiring for an outdoor pair has to be specified differently from the start.
We mount TVs on brick, on drywall and into built-in units, fixing into something structural rather than into plasterboard alone, choosing a height that suits the room and hiding the cabling in the wall cavity.
Brackets are matched to the weight of the set. On an outside wall in a damp house we examine the fixing points more carefully, because plaster that has taken up moisture will not hold a heavy TV on the wrong anchors.
We repair and replace Explora and HD decoders across the city: power supplies, HDMI faults, boot loops and smartcard problems.
Diagnosis counts for more than usual here. A high proportion of the decoders brought to us as faulty turn out to be working perfectly, with the real problem sitting outside on the dish, so we measure the signal before opening anything up. We warranty repairs for six months, and R550 covers a technician coming to you and identifying the fault.
